Studia Marina is peer-reviewed international journal published in electronic and printed versions by the Institute of Marine Biology, University of Montenegro, since 1965. Since 2018, Studia Marina is published twice a year (June and December).
Studia Marina is currently cited in the ASFA (Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts). Studia Marina publishes original scientific papers, review articles and short communications on all aspects of marine sciences referring to the area of the Mediterranean, but especially the Adriatic Sea. Papers are published in English with an abstract and a keywords in Montenegrin. In case that author/s cannot provide the abstract and keywords in Montenegrin, the Editorial Board will prepare it. Studia Marina is available online for free at www.studiamarina.ucg.ac.me, and there is no publication fees for publishing.
Original scientific papers should only report original results. The length of the papers should be a maximum of 20 printed pages (~80.000 characters with spaces). Larger articles can be accepted upon the editor's agreement.
Review articles are generally accepted only upon invitation or after being agreed by the editor. Prospective authors are encouraged to send an extended abstract (up to two pages of printed text) which will outline the scope of the subject, its main points and objectives and explain how the topic will benefit the scientific public. Upon review of the abstract, the author can be invited to submit the manuscript within an agreed time limit and following the guidelines for submission of standard papers.
Short communications should be no longer than four printed pages (~16.000 characters with spaces). They should be confined to a single point within the scope of the journal, such as an unusual or rare occurrence, an interesting observation, etc.
Papers will normally be reviewed by two or more experts in the relevant scientific discipline and evaluated for publication by the editor or editorial board. The submissions may be returned to authors without reviewing if the editor finds them to be of inadequate quality or inappropriate for Studia Marina.
